[REVIEW] The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG

IMG_7002Though there are lots of controversy surrounding The Ordinary these days, I still have to review two products that I already purchased from them. Maybe I won’t purchase from them in near future unless they tidy up their problems and scandal, I think. Well, as for now I want to talk about their eye serum, which is the The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG.

Reduces Appearance of Eye Contour Pigmentation and of Puffiness

This light-textured formula contains an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine, supplemented with highly-purified Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCG) from green tea leaves. Independent studies have shown that topical use of each of caffeine and EGCG can help reduce looks of puffiness and of dark circles in the eye contour. Additional studies have shown that caffeine can also reduce the appearance of cellulite.

1. Hollowness in the eye contour as a result of structure of sub-dermal tissues like fat and bone can result in visible shadows under the eyes. This shadow, which is not to be mistaken for dark circles, cannot be addressed with topical skincare including this formula.

2. Fat deposits under the eye contour can create permanent puffiness in this area. This type of deposit cannot be improved with topical skincare, including this formula.

3. Supplied in UV-protective packaging as EGCG is sensitive to light.

Massage a small amount onto the eye contour AM and PM.

Aqua (Water), Caffeine, Maltodextrin, Glycerin, Propanediol, Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside, Gallyl Glucoside, Hyaluronic Acid, Oxidized Glutathione, Melanin, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Urea, Pentylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Xanthan gum, Lactic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Propyl Gallate, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Benzyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol.

I rarely heard about eye serum, and I have to say that this DECIEM creation was a breath of fresh air. Eye cream is always been a controversy in skin care community, therefore, no matter how promising it looks or sounds, you should never have high hopes with eye cream / serum. The sound of this product is really sounds promising, isn’t it? Caffeine, ECGC, well, in fact I think caffeine is a common ingredients in eye creams. It’s just the way The Ordinary marketed it as something revolutionary and groundbreaking. Lol, I’m sorry if I sounds so cynical after the DECIEM scandal. 😆

The texture itself is really, really thin, and serum-like. It definitely goes a loooong way with this serum. If normal eye cream could lasted me around 4 months, I think this eye serum could last me for 6 months or so. One tiny drop is enough for both eyes. The thing that I really like with this eye serum is the fact that it’s super lightweight and goes great under makeup. My concealer won’t crease or flakes off with this eye serum.

However, is it great for depuffing and dark circle? Once again, you shouldn’t have high hopes with eye cream / serum, lol. I honestly didn’t notice anything different with my eye area except the fact that it helps to make my eye area to be well hydrated and it would go smoothly if you like to massage your eyes to reduce tiredness. (There’s a proper way to massage your skin and eyes, if you don’t know yet, please just google it and practice it! It will help to reduce puffiness).

Would I recommend it? Well, if you’re looking for affordable eye cream, then this is it. However, if you’re looking for life changing eye cream / serum, well… I think it’s hard to find it anywhere, and maybe you should have filler, or botox, lol. If I’m going to compare it with other eyecreams that I’ve ever tried, I still prefer the Sana Nameraka Honpo Eye Cream and Laneige Eye Sleeping Mask, to be honest. But, well, you decide.

Have you tried this eye serum? What do you think? Please share in the comment section bellow! 😉

  1. I am still using this in the morning, but haven’t seen a difference other than hydration like you mentioned. This is my second bottle, and honestly just picked it up because I wanted free shipping!
