Um, what? Skin conditioner? I know right, even I was so confused what exactly the purpose of this product when I saw it in Instagram, lol. And when I saw that it’s already available here in Indonesia, I grabbed it and put it directly into cashier even though I haven’t done my research about this particular product, lol.
So, what’s exactly the purpose of this product?
This skin-conditioning toner contains natural hatomugi (Job’s tears) as a moisturizer. While highly moisturizing and nourishing for rough, dry patches, it does not leave the skin feeling sticky or greasy. Protects the skin with powerful hydration, fighting irritation to keep the skin soft and smooth. Soothes redness after sunburn with a pleasant cooling sensation. Although perfect for the face, it is also excellent for use anywhere on the body. Holds moisture in after showering or bathing. Contains no artificial fragrance or color.
So, apparently this Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is super famous in Japan and for Japanese skin care lovers. It’s supposed to be a multi-purpose product that can be used as toner, lotion, and sheet mask for your face and your body. When I bought this, I honestly kinda expect that this product would be as great as my beloved Hada Labo Gokyujun Lotion, especially when this Skin Conditioner comes with super affordable price (around $7 for 500ml in Indonesia, but I believe that in Japan it’s even cheaper).
This Hatomugi Skin Conditioner has this thin, watery texture. It’s so watery that when I tried to capture it for the picture above, it’s just keep sliding over my hand . At first, I was quite confused on how should I incorporate this product to my routine. So, within the first week of usage, I’ve been experimenting with this product, wether trying to use it as hydrating toner, lotion, or sheet mask in between my routine. After a month, I personally found that the best way of using it is for sheet mask. As a sheet mask, it would soothes my skin quite nicely and I even think that the result is quite similar with LuLuLun Mask. However, I don’t find it hydrating enough for my skin if I use it as hydrating toner or lotion, therefore, it wouldn’t replace my love for Hada Labo Gokyujun Lotion.
So, overall, I think this is quite an investment if you use sheet mask religiously because it’s super affordable, and you just can’t beat the price, because with the same price you probably only get 7 or 8 cheapest Korean sheet mask (i.e Etude House’s or Innisfree’s), while this Hatomugi Skin Conditioner would lasted you a long long time. Although, maybe you have to make your own sheet mask cocktail if you want to add more skin care benefits like maybe add essence or serum to the mix.
I think this is a fairly nice product and I personally will conclude that the terms “conditioner” in this product is probably to put your skin condition’s at the best stage before further skin care steps. Well, yeah, similar with toner maybe, but I found that the perfect timing to use this is after exfoliating toner and before FTE and hydrating toner.
